Abstract

This Law aims at the protection of plants in Syria. It is composed of 12 articles. Article 1 deals with terms and definitions. Plants and plant products shall be subjected to the control of quarantine officers before their introduction in Syria. Articles 3 and 4 prohibit the importation and introduction of plants and plant products afflicted by insects and diseases. Articles 5 and 6 entrust the Agricultural Quarantine Departments to carry out operations of disinfection, sterilization and disinfestations of plant consignments at importer’s expense. Article 7 charges the Minister of Agriculture to issue necessary resolutions related to diseases and quarantine. Article 8 contains offences and penalties.
