Abstract This Resolution is composed of 7 articles. Article 1 decrees the establishment of the High Council for Protection of Nile River and Watercourses from Pollution under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister and membership of 9 concerned ministers. Article 2 defines tasks and competencies of the High Council in particular to: prepare national strategies and policies for the protection of Nile River and watercourses from pollution; prepare a database on the quality of Nile water; develop a mechanism for the exchange of monitoring data of Nile water quality between concerned parties; review plans and projects of relevant ministries in order to reduce the pollution of the River Nile; provide funds necessary to finance projects aiming to stop the disposal and discharge of sewage and industrial wastewater in the Nile and its branches; and, prepare a national program to educate citizens about the importance of drinking water and conservation measures.
