Abstract

This Decree (and the following amendments) consisting of 10 articles establishes that import of ware potatoes is subject to Import conditions and technical specifications contained in the Lebanese Standards No.473 of 2001, except for size conditions. The importer has to obtain a permit by the Directorate of Agricultural Resources (this article has been deleted by the Decree 5/1 of 2015). The Decree deals with: rules for the containers and minimum size of the potatoes; laboratory testing to ensure the freedom of the shipment from the Potato Brown Rot and the Potato Ring Rot; and necessary certificates to allow the entry in Lebanon, including the Phytosanitary certificate ensuring that they are free from quarantine pests and diseases. The Decree is accompanied by the attached Decree 158/1 of 2013 establishing specific conditions to import potatoes from Egypt for the year 2013. The Decree No.14/1 of 2012 includes the possibility of entry through two land crossings. The Lebanese Standards No.473 refers to the Potatoes intended for storage and deals with the kind of potatoes admitted, the general requirements and the tolerances allowed.
