Abstract

This Resolution is composed of 8 articles. Article 1 provides for the replacement of the name of the National Bank of Genes and Genetic Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation into the National Bank of Genes. Article 2 entrusts the National Bank of Genes with the authority to carry out the National programme for genes and genetic resources which shall include: (a) gathering, preserving, valuating and recording Egyptian genetic genes and resources of wildlife and local species and families; (b) dealing with the Egyptian Genetic Resources with the objective to derive new species; and, (c) taking the necessary measures and arrangements for protecting State Propriety Rights of the derived genetic resources of either wildlife and local species and families. Article 3 deals with the Registration of Egyptian Plant Genetic Resources for wildlife and local species. Article 4 entrusts the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation to issue a resolution to define the participation share and income's percentage from the use of Egyptian Genetic Resources by the breeder. Article 5 prescribes the keeping of a special register by the National Bank of Genes for protected plant species and breeder’s rights. Article 6 deals with the conservation of a sample of all plant species subject to circulation and trade.
