Abstract This National Strategy for Food and Nutrition Security - 2020 (ENSAN- 2020) has a twin-track approach for immediate hunger relief interventions with a long-term strategy for sustainable growth of the population and as its main goal to ensure permanent and stable access of the population to adequate, healthy, nutritious and safe food, subject to the satisfaction of other basic needs, enabling to realize their human right, in terms of access to food, food availability and food utilisation to adequate food. It addresses agro-environmental concerns and agro-environmental measures are included in the objectives and/or intended actions. As the strategic objectives ENSAN - 2020 aims at strengthening the legislative and institutional framework to consolidate the Food and Nutrition Security (SAN) and to ensuring the respect of Human Rights to Adequate Food (DHAA). Another goal should be to increase the participation of women in the policy making, given their important role in agricultural production systems.
