Abstract The Resolution regulates certain contaminants in food. It consists of seven articles: Purpose and scope of application (1); Definition of terms (2); General provisions (3); Dried, mixed processed and assembled food (4); Special requirements (5); Special requirements for peanuts, seeds of other oil species, hazelnuts, dried fruit, rice, maize and salad (6); and Special requirements for peanuts, seeds of other oil species, and food and cereals made from them (7). The Resolution also includes Annex on Maximum Permitted Limits of Certain Contaminants in Food listing the same contaminants with associated limits in specific foods. The contaminants are divided into the following groups: nitrates, mycotoxins, metals, 3-MCPD, dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, melamine and structural analogues, and plant toxins. The requirements of the Regulation equally apply to food of plant and animal origin and any food whether raw, processed or mixed. The purpose of the document is to protect human life and health as well as consumer rights.
