Abstract

This Resolution is composed of 4 articles. Article 1 defines rules and requirements for fishing with chinchilla nets in the Syrian Territorial Sea, as follows: (a) all chinchilla nets shall be provided with a patch of at least 4 square metres and shall have a minimum mesh size of 14mm; (b) nets with a height of 50m to 100m shall be used in waters with a depth of at least 40m; (c) nets with a height lower than 50m can operate in the coast with a minimum depth of 25m; (d) chinchilla nets can operate from sunset to sunrise; and, (e) the use of these gear shall not be authorized from 15 March to 30 April and from 16 July to 15 August of each year. All transgressions and offences shall be subject to the penalties provided for in the Aquatic Living Protection Law and other legislations in force (art. 4). All rules and regulations that do not comply with this Resolution are now abrogated (art. 5).
