Abstract

Requirements and conditions for organic fertilizers produced by the treatment of olive residues are: (a) conservation of the product in a dry place, with a good circulation of air and provided with a good drainage; (b) the industry shall be at least 3 km from residential areas, public establishments, animal-breeding centres, veterinary and medicine industries, and water sources; (c) direction of wind shall be taken into consideration; (d) producers shall afforest the site with wind resistant trees, guarantee good hygienic conditions and cleanness of the place and guarantee the safety conditions for workers and visitors; (e) measures shall be taken to prevent the spreading of residues and waste out of installations; (f) carrying out a periodically control and examination of all workers; (g) industries producers of the aforementioned fertilizers shall be provided with laboratories for carrying out periodic analyses of fertilizers in order to ascertain their compatibility with agriculture; (h) fertilizers shall contain a label with all necessary information; and, (i) a previous authorization from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation shall be obtained for the production of fertilizers. Owners of industries established before the entry into force of this Resolution have one year from the date of entry into force of this Resolution to regulate their position.
