EDA's main objective is to promote the development of aquaculture in Mozambique, with a view to exploiting the existing national potential in a sustainable manner, contributing to food and nutrition security, job creation, contribution to the trade balance and reducing pressure on fishing activity. The efforts to be undertaken by the Government, through the improvement of policies aimed at facilitating private investment, mobilizing low-cost financing and involving small producers will ensure the development of the aquaculture sub-sector, with a focus on industrial aquaculture practiced by big companies. At the same time, as a result of these interventions, commercial aquaculture practiced by small and medium-sized companies will also grow, thus structurally transforming subsistence aquaculture into commercial aquaculture.
