Abstract

The norms and rules for ensuring nuclear and radiation safety "Requirements for ensuring the physical protection of nuclear materials during transportation" establish technical requirements for the safe handling of sources of ionizing radiation and radiation facilities, including facilities using nuclear energy, in terms of ensuring physical protection associated with the safe transportation of nuclear materials of categories I, II and III by road and rail across the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Transportation of nuclear materials by air and inland water transport is carried out in accordance with the legislation in the field of the use of airspace and aviation and the legislation in the field of inland water transport. Transportation of nuclear materials across the territory of the Republic of Belarus is carried out subject to ensuring their physical protection, compliance with the legislation in the field of transportation of hazardous substances and legislation in the field of ensuring nuclear and radiation safety. The plan for ensuring physical protection during transportation of nuclear materials includes: (a) organizational measures; (b) measures to ensure the physical protection of nuclear materials during transportation; and (c) measures to respond to unauthorized (illegal) actions.
