The Resolution enters into force from 1 September 2018.
Abstract

The Resolution provides for general requirements for labels on food. It consists of five chapters divided into 31 articles: General Provisions (I); General principles applicable to information placed on food (II); Requirements for food information and responsibilities of business operators (III); Mandatory information on food (IV); and Additional information on food (V). The Regulation also includes Annex 1 on Substances and Products Causing Allergies and High Sensitivity; Annex 2 on List of Food that Require Additional Information; Annex 3 on Label Dimensions; Annex 4 on List of Food which Do not Require Information on its Nutritional Value; Annex 5 on Naming Food and Special Associated Information; Annex 6 on Marking and Noting Ingredients; Annex 7 on Number of Ingredients; Annex 8 on Indicating Net Weight; Annex 9 on Expiration Minimum Date, “Best Used by…” and Shelf Life; Annex 10 on Types of Meat which Require Indicating Place and Country of Origin; Annex 11 on Spirit Content; Annex 12 on Recommended Forms of Use; Annex 13 on Coefficient for Calculating Energy Value; and Annex 14 on Marking and Presenting Nutritional Value. Overall, the Resolution aims to protect consumer rights and ensure effective functioning of internal market. It applies to food intended for end users, including restaurants. The labels on food should also comply with other requirements under the legislation of Georgia.
