This Convention, consisting of 12 articles and 1 geographical map, establishes the requirements to be satisfied in order to perform any activity in wetland areas of international importance. It aims to regulate and stem the progressive erosion and loss of wetland areas today and in the future, which are a major economic, cultural, scientific and recreational sector, and a regulatory system for the ecological functions of water resources, which are still a shelter to characteristic wild flora and fauna species, especially aquatic migratory birds.
