Article 1 establishes general conditions and requirements necessary for the importation of dried fish used for poultry and fish feed, which are: (a) dried fish must be suitable for poultry and fish feed; (b) dried fish must be free from diseases, poisons, and toxic residues harmful to public health and to animal health as well as free from hormonal substances, and anabolic steroids; (c) the percentage of radioactivity shall comply with the limits established by the General Authority for Syrian Atomic Energy; and, (d) packages must contain labels indicating the name of the substance, net weight, date of production, expiry date, and the country of origin. Physical requirements for the dried fish shall be: (a) it must be fresh and recently dried; (b) it must be free from rancid smell; and, (c) the percentage of impurity shall not exceed 3 percent. Chemical requirements for dried fish shall be: (a) raw protein shall be at least 55 percent; (b) humidity maximum limit 10 percent; (c) raw fat maximum limit 16 percent; (d) total phosphorous minimum limit 2 percent; (e) calcium maximum limit 4 percent; (f) edible salt maximum 4 percent; and, (g) un-dissolved ashes maximum limit 2 percent. Only authorized fish meal laboratories may be allowed to import dried fish (art. 2). The Animal Production Department and the Animal Health Department shall carry out controls and inspections on the products (meal fish) from the technical and sanitary point of view (art. 4).
