Abstract

The Resolution provides rules for management of bio industry, production of bio-products, their processing, marking, labeling, distribution, sale, as well as voluntary certification. It consists of 20 articles: General provisions (1); Purpose and scope of application (2); Definition of terms (3); General principles of bio production (4); Specific principles for bio-industry management and bio production of food/feed (5); Specific rules for plant production (6); Specific rules for animal farming (7); Specific rules for beekeeping and bee products (8); Specific rules for poultry (9); Specific rules for aquaculture bio production (10); Conversion (11); Rules for processing, packaging, storing, transporting and selling food/feed (12); Bio-production of yeast (13); Bio production of wine (14); Labeling/marking of bio products (15); Importing/exporting bio products (16); Obligations of business operators (17); Certification of bio production/farming (18); Grounds of denial and revocation of certification (19); and Permitted means and substances for bio production (20). The Resolution also includes Annex 1 on Fertilizers and products for soil restoration; Annex 2 on Materials for plant protection; Annex 3 on Purchasing animals in conversional farming; Annex 4 on Minimum space for animal stalls; Annex 5 on Maximum number of animals on one hectare; Annex 6 on Permitted feed, additives and substances in animal farming; Annex 7 on Permitted means for cleaning and disinfection of animal stalls and devices; Annex 8 on Non-agricultural supplements permitted in food production; Annex 9 on Technological supplements permitted in food production; Annex 10 on Conversional agricultural ingredients permitted in food production; Annex 11 on Permitted materials for production of yeast and yeast products; and Annex 12 on Materials and substances permitted for use in wine-making. The goal of the document is to support Georgia's biodiversity, to protect the environment, to effectively use resources, to protect the interests of consumers and to strengthen the export potential of the country, as well as to protect those business operators that conduct their business in compliance with these rules. The Resolution notes that it applies to most of the products placed on the market except for productions that are intended for personal or family use.
