Abstract

This Resolution approves the rules on novel food. It consists of 27 articles: General provisions (1); Purpose and Scope of application (2); Definitions (3); Procedure for determination of novel food status (4); List of authorised novel foods (5); General conditions for inclusion of food in the list of novel foods (6); Updating and amending the list of novel food (7); Procedure for authorising the placing on the market of a novel food and updating the list (8); Opinion of the Agency (9); Authorisation of a novel food and updates of the list (10); Rules laying down the administrative and scientific requirements for the application (11); Notification of a traditional food from a third country (12); Procedures for placing on the market of a traditional food from a third country (13); Application for the authorisation of a traditional food from a third country (14); Opinion of the Agency on a traditional food from a third country (15); Authorisation of a traditional food from a third country and updates of the list (16); Updates to the list as regards authorised traditional foods from third countries (17); Rules laying down administrative and scientific requirements concerning traditional foods from third countries (18); Additional information concerning risk assessment (19); Ad hoc extension of time periods (20); Confidentiality of the application for updates of the list (21); Post-market monitoring requirements (22); Authorisation procedure in case of data protection (23); Authorisation of a novel food and inclusion in the list based on protected proprietary scientific evidence or scientific data (24); and Authorisation procedure in case of a parallel application for the authorisation of a health claim (25).
