Abstract

These Regulations implement provisions of article 26 of the Law no. 147/I of 2003 on Protection Measures Against the Importation and Spread of Organisms Harmful to Plants and Plant Products, and provide for harmonisation of Cyprus Legislation with the Commission Directive 92/70/EEC laying down the details of the checks to be carried out for the recognition of protected zones in the European Community. Matters covered by the Regulations include: recognition of protected zones; preparation of plans for the identification of the zones; controls of harmful organisms, pests, the environment of the zones; systematic checks for the detection of harmful organisms, including checks on harmful organisms of animal origin and, those on forest plants or plant products; authorised inspections; environmental audit methodology; specific criteria to assess the inspections.
