Abstract

These Regulations of the Minister of Health, made under Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, prescribes Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for food that is either imported or produced in South Africa. It prohibits the sale or importation, as the case may be, of food that contains a veterinary medicine or stock remedy in excess of prescribed standards. Standards are, amongst others, derived from the Codex Alimentarius and Directives of the European Community.
