Abstract This Regulation divides in 4 classes domestic water courses in order to protect their quality, which is measured using determined parameters. It consists of 25 articles specifying water intended for: a) domestic use, without prior or with little treatment (Class 1);b) domestic use, after conventional treatment; c) irrigation of horticulture or fruiting plants; d) primary contact recreation (swimming, water skiing and diving) (2); e) the protection of fish in general, and other flora and fauna; f) use by wildlife for drinking purposes (3); g) domestic use, after heavy treatment; h) navigation; i) scenic purposes; l) industrial use, irrigation and less demanding uses (4).
