Abstract In order to protect the biodiversity and natural riches of old forests this Regulation indicates various areas in Finland as nature protection areas in accordance with section 2 of the Nature Protection Act of 1923. It is prohibited to construct roads, catch or kill any vertebrate animals, excavate or otherwise damage the soil, and to damage plants (art. 3). A conservation and management plan shall be approved for each area by the Ministry of Environment (art. 6). Article 7 provides for the incorporation of other areas in nature protection areas. The areas shall be property of the Forestry Agency (art. 10). The Ministry of Environment shall issue further directives to implement the present Regulation and the Land Survey Office shall give directions regarding the delimitation of protection areas.
