The duties of REAs include: (a) to assist in the control and implementation of environmental legislation; (b) to write every 3 months a report on the state of the environment in the respective prefecture; (c) to collect and register specified data; (d) to plan and carry out inspection; (e) to organize environmental impact assessment of projects which obtain a licence from the REA (Part I). Provisions of Part II outline the duties of the REA chiefs; provisions of Part III outline the duties of REA inspectors.
