Abstract The objective of this Regulation is to define the rules and principles of road, air, rail, and sea transportation of any material containing radioactive substances. The transportation of radioactive substances shall be made under protective programs. The Turkish Atomic Energy Agency keeps under observation, on a regular basis, those involved in such transportation for dosage assessment. Technical details and descriptions as well as threshold values and calculation methods are given in the Regulation. Packages for material containing radioactive substances are classified as “Type A”, “Type B” and “Type C”. Type A is for radioactive materials whose values are given in Table 1 of Annex 1 to the Regulation. Type B packs are the ones designed and produced to resist serious impacts due to heavy accidents, and a special certificate is issued for such packs. Type C is specially designed to transport materials with high radiation content and is capable of resisting aircraft accidents. Detailed labels, conforming to the specifications given in the Regulation, should be prepared and pasted to all four sides of the pack. Transportation conditions and rules from the initial preparation to reaching and unloading at the final destination are discussed in detail in the Regulation. Full text Turkish
