Abstract This Regulation is applied to the safety investigations in the site selection process for the final disposal of high-level radioactive waste. All information on the radioactive in particular information on the quantity, type, composition and activity of the radioactive waste is required for carrying out the preliminary safety investigations. A geosynthesis that contains the documentation and interpretation of all geoscientific information on an investigation area must be prepared for each preliminary safety investigation. The operational safety analysis must record all facility conditions of the repository. The long-term analysis must cover the entire assessment period of one million years from the planned closure of the repository.The uncertainties existing at the time of the investigation should be systematically identified and characterised.
