Abstract The practice and research center of the Afyon Kocatepe University for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation aims at (i) determining wild animal species in Turkey, especially in Western Anatolia, (ii) ensuring the conservation and reproduction of protected species, (iii) conducting studies in the field of animal health and establishing hospitals, laboratories, shelters, stations, observation houses, zoos and protection and control areas, (iv) carrying out treatment, care, rehabilitation and euthanasia if necessary, of weak, orphaned, displaced, sick and injured wild animals and for identification of infectious diseases spreading in the environment, and (v) establishing mechanisms, organizations and cooperation for the long-life structure to return them to the wild after rehabilitation.
