Production and use value of the variety (VCU test) is determined on the basis of results of testing over certain essential characteristics of certain variety and related to the following eight elements: 1) yield of fresh hops (kg/elemental plot); 2) moisture content in the cones; 3) yield of air-dried hops (with 11% moisture); 4) mass of 100 air-dry cones; 5) spindle density: number of elbows/1cm; 6) content of bitter substances; 7) content of aromatic substances; 8) tolerance, and/or resistance to diseases and pests. The variety shall be tested by comparing essential characteristics under examination with essential characteristics of one or more standard varieties of the same plant type, in accordance with the Serbian Law governing the recognition of agricultural plant varieties.
