Abstract This Regulation, as in accordance with the provisions of the Serbian Law on the recognition of varieties of agricultural plants, prescribes the methods of testing for varieties of apple fruits in the experimental field, in order to recognize the exact variety. These methods are aimed at examining certain essential characteristics of a specific variety, in order to determine: 1) variety, uniformity and stability of the variety (DUS test); 2) better production and use values of the variety (VCU test). The production and use value of a variety is determined on the basis of the results of examination of certain essential characteristics of the variety which refer to: 1) observation of phenological phases; 2) resistance to pathogens and pests; 3) resistance to low temperatures; 4) yield; 5) morphological characteristics of the fruit.
