Abstract This Regulation, as in accordance with the provisions of the Serbian Law on the recognition of varieties of agricultural plants, prescribes the methods of testing for potato variety Solanum tuberosum L. in the experimental field and in the laboratory, in order to recognize the variety. These methods shall examine certain essential characteristics of the variety, in order to determine: 1) variety, uniformity and stability of the variety (DUS test); 2) better production and use values of the variety (VCU test). The production and use value of a variety is determined on the basis of the results of examination of certain essential characteristics of the variety which refer to: 1) yield; 2) length of vegetation period; 3) average tuber size; 4) skin color and flesh color; 5) tuber shape; 6) number of tubers per plant; 7) yield structure; 8) roughness of the epidermis; 9) resistance to diseases and pests.
