The Regulation prohibits in principle fishing for and landing of any of these species in the area specified but allows as an exemption from the prohibition a total allowable catch and specific fishing quotas for each species for specified fisheries, i.e. trawl group fishery, purse seine group fishery, group fishery, conventional gear group fishery. The Regulation also specifies single vessel quotas for vessels participating in each fishery and bycatch quotas. It also concerns small-scale commercial fishery and quota calculation in case of replacement or converting of fishing vessels. The does not apply to fishing for cod and haddock in the fishing season at Jan Mayen in accordance with Regulation No. 2217 of 2018 on the ban on fishing for cod and haddock in the fishing zone around Jan Mayen.
