Abstract

This Regulation regulates the Installation and Activation of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) for Vessels Sailing in the Indonesian Waters. It applies to Indonesian territorial sea, its archipelago and inland waters. AIS, is a Very High Frequency (VHF) radio transmission system that conveys data via VHF Data Link (VDL) to send and receive information automatically to other vessels, Vessel Stations Traffic Services (VTS), and/or beach radio stations (SROP). All fishing above 60GT Indonesian-flagged vessels and foreign ships sailing in the territorial waters of Indonesia must install and activate AIS. Type AIS as referred to in Article 3 consists of: AIS Class A; and AIS Class B. The owner must provide the correct information on AIS. Class AIS information consists of: a) static data consists of: 1. name and type of vessel; 2. call sign; 3. Vessel nationality; 4. Maritime Mobile Services Identities (MMSI); 5. International Maritime Organization (IMO) Number; 6. Ship Weight; 7. Draft ship; and 8. Ship length and width; b) Dynamic data consists of: 1. Navigation status; 2. Coordinates of the ship; 3. Destination of the sail with estimated time of arrival; 4. Ship speed; and 5. Ship's bow.
