Abstract This Ministerial Regulation, consisting of 24 articles, aims at increasing the added value of fishery products and the welfare of business actors involved in the fisheries sector. The Regulation defines relevant terms including: fishery products, fish, fish farming, added value of fishery products, fish handling, fish processing, fish marketing, raw materials, traceability, fishery products centre. The Regulation empowers the Minister to encourage the increase of added value of fishing products through: establishment of operational guidelines and procedures; the fishery products and fishery products centre development; assistance, supervision and consultation; implementation of education and training procedures; research and development of science and technology; involvement of business actors. Matters covered by the Regulation include: establishment of standard operating guidelines and procedures for improving added value of fishery products, carried out through the following activities: handling of raw materials; selection of uncontaminated fishing areas; processing and distribution of fishery products; implementation of traceability system; application of sanitation procedures. The Regulation defines the development of fishery products as the activities intended to convert primary products into secondary or final products, in order to increase the variety of products with higher added value.
