Abstract This Regulation defines measures concerning buffer strips on agricultural land, having regard to the provisions of the Fertiliser Act, the Water Act, the Environment Management Act, and the Environmental Management Activities Decree, and in compliance with the provisions of the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2069 granting of a derogation requested by the Netherlands on the basis of Council Directive 91/676/EEC on the protection of water against pollution by nitrates from agricultural sources. The Regulation concerns: buffer strips; ecologically sensitive watercourse; agricultural land; fertilisers; plot, as a contiguous surface of land bounded by roads, waterways, ditches, timber stands, walls, embankments or otherwise topographically limited. The Regulation prescribes that it is prohibited to apply fertilisers to or into the soil on a plot located on agricultural land in a buffer strip of various distances, depending on the category of watercourse.
