Abstract

This Regulation shall be mandatory for the entire territory of the Russian Federation and shall apply to all state institutions, organizations, economic entities officials and citizens operating in the sphere of prophylaxis and combating necrobacteriosis. Most species of humans and animals are responsive to this disease, with the highest infection rate among cattle and reindeer. Sources of infection are sick animals and other carriers of the bacteria. Prophylaxis of necrobacteriosis shall include the following measures: (a) trade in animals and products of animal origin shall be subject to mandatory authorization by veterinary inspectors; (b) compulsory 30 day quarantine for all newly imported animals; (c) timely notification by the veterinary service of all suspected cases of necrobacteriosis; (d) veterinary examination of animals at least one a year; (e) regular clean-up and prevention of pollution and swamping of grazing grounds; and (f) protection of animals against blood-sucking insects by application of insecticides.
