Abstract

The present Regulation, issued by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, lays down additional provisions to Council Regulation (EC) No 1099/2009 of 24 September 2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing. The additional provisions concern the treatment of animals in slaughterhouses, as well as the use of anesthesia when killing of animals other than fur animals. The Icelandic Food and Veterinary authority shall be responsible for the implementation of this Regulation, and shall monitor compliance with its provisions.
