Upon entry into force of this Regulation shall repeal all previous regulations on hunting, trapping and fishing in Svalbard. Abstract This Regulation ensures the management and protection of Svalbard’s wildlife and habitat. Within this framework, harvesting and collection of eggs, feathered animals, wild fauna with the exception of saltwater fish, crustaceans and marine mammals not indigenous to Svalbard shall be controlled. Harvestable mammals, birds, trouts and other anadromous salmonids may be fished/hunted during specific seasons (article 7), including the hunting of arctic fox between 1 November and 15 March. Harvesting may only occur by residents in Svalbard holding a valid fishing and hunting license, which establishes permitted methods, quota (yearly) and season for these activities (subject to registration and submission thereof to local authorities). Notes on special provisions to this Regulation and related to principles of management of flora and fauna in Svalbard, are implemented in accordance to article 24 of Act No. 79.
