Abstract

The present Regulation supplements the Animal Health Regulation with provisions on imports from third countries of certain terrestrial animals, breeding material from terrestrial animals, all life stages of aquatic animals, and animal products. It also includes provisions on handling after import and transport of the said consignments. The Regulation also applies to marine mammals, reptiles and amphibians with regard to the supplementary national provisions. The Regulation contains 9 sections divided into the following chapters: I. Scope of application and implementation; II. Supplementary national provisions - prohibition; III. Administrative decisions. The Regulation prohibits the import of live terrestrial animals, marine mammals, reptiles and amphibians from third countries and Svalbard in cases where the EEA regulatory framework does not contain common animal health requirements. In such cases, import can only take place after special approval from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
