Abstract

This Regulation aims to promote the profitability and competitiveness of the aquaculture industry within the framework of environmentally sustainable development and contribute to value creation along the Norwegian coast through the establishment of production areas and the regulation of production capacity for salmon, trout, and rainbow trout aquaculture. The Regulation applies to Norwegian land territory and territorial waters, on the continental shelf, and in Norway's economic zone. Its provisions establish production areas for commercial permits for aquaculture of edible fish species, including salmon, trout, and rainbow trout in the sea, and regulate production capacity within these areas. The production capacity in aquaculture production areas shall be regulated in accordance with the environmental sustainability of the area, as stipulated in Article 8.
