Its objectives are to contribute to the proper use of medicines to avoid the unnecessary suffering of animals, contribute to good animal health, and to ensure food safety. It covers the use of medicines for animals by veterinarians and fisheries biologists. As a general rule, veterinarians and fisheries biologists shall only use medicines that have been approved for particular animal species and particular diseases. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority shall be the supervising and enforcement authority.
