Abstract

The present Regulation, adopted by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, lays down rules governing the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, a state administrative body with special powers, administratively subordinate to the Ministry of Climate and Environment. The Institute shall work to ensure that authorities, industries, institutions and the general public may best safeguard their interests in protecting lives and resources, for planning, and for environmental protection. For these purposes, it shall monitor, forecast and disseminate weather information with high quality and regularity, and calculate climate data for present and future purposes. It shall also conduct research and development in relevant areas of expertise and be able to perform assignments and provide services upon request.
