Abstract

The Regulations sets rules on fishing quota allowance for spring-spawning herring in Norwegian waters. Total quota allowed for fishing in EU waters is maximum 48 805 tons, max. 19 523 tons allowed in the Faroese waters and max. 58 570 tons allowed in the Iceland economic zone. Vessels authorized to fish the allocated quotas may over- or under- fish by a max. 10% in 2012. Fishing in coastal vessel groups is specified in Chapter 4. Vessels measuring under 15 meters and fishing with nets from the southern county border of Møre and Romsdal in the southern territory of Finnmark, must notify the Fishery Directorate. Permitted fishing methods and fishing areas are specified in Chapter 5. It is permitted to transfer catch between vessels fishing with nets and. Criteria for this transfer is that vessels are equipped and staffed for fishing. Within the baselines north of 62° N it is allowed to fish for Norwegian spring-spawning herring as bait. Such fishing may only be conducted by fishermen who are recognized in the Sales of catch thereof is prohibited. From 1 January to 30 April it is permitted to fish for Norwegian spring-spawning herring for bait within 6 nautical miles from the baselines between 61° N and 62° N. The Fishing Directorate may determine bycatch of herring and give permission on certain conditions for its sale. During sprat-fishing, a 50% bycatch of herring is allowed. When trawl- or seine-fishing for herring, it is prohibited to bycatch cod, haddock, saithe and or redfish.
