Abstract This Regulation sets rules on fishing quota for mackerel in the territorial waters and economic zone, fishery zone around Jan Mayen, the fishery protection zone around Svalbard and in international waters. Fishing and landing of max. 180 842 tons is permitted, of which 5350 tons shall be allocated for research and educational purposes, and 1 300 tons for bait. 36 217 tons may be fished in EU waters in ICES statistical area VIa (north of 56° 30'N), of which 13 898 tons may be fished in EU waters in ICES statistical area IIa and VII d, e, f and h. Of this total quota, a maximum of 3 000 tons may be fished in the ICES IIIa statistic zone. Vessels registered with special fishing permission to operate certain types of fishing and hunting are allowed to a catch and landing of 122 878 mackerel, while these with no special permission are allowed to a maximum of 11 122 tons. Specific quota calculation is given (Chapters 2 and 3). Vessel size is subject to distribution of allowed fishing quota (Chapter 4, articles 12-16).
