Abstract

This Regional Legislative Decree, consisting of 10 articles, creates the municipal veterinarian status of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. It defines the conditions under which it can be recognized as veterinary sanitary authority of a municipality. All municipalities in the Autonomous Region of Madeira must have one or more veterinarians, in accordance with the requirements and needs of the Municipality. It is their respective municipal councils' responsibility to contract them under the applicable legal terms. A municipal council may agree with others (maximum of three) preferably from territorially neighbouring municipalities, the conditions for hiring a veterinarian for obtaining any related services. The municipal veterinarian should not practice private veterinary in the municipality(ies) acting, either individually or through a company, unless, at the request of the same, the Professional and Deontological Council of the Order of Veterinarians recognize that this is not incompatible with the mission.
