Abstract Veterinary medicine is understood as the field of scientific knowledge and practical activity aimed at preventing animal diseases and their treatment, producing complete and safe veterinary and sanitary products of animal origin and protecting the population from diseases common to humans and animals.The main tasks of veterinary medicine in the Altai Territory are implementation of measures to prevent and eliminate quarantine and particularly dangerous (according to the list approved federal executive body responsible for the development of state policy and legal regulation in the field of agro-industrial complex, including veterinary) diseases of animals, fur-bearing animals, birds, fishes and bees, and the implementation of regional veterinary services. Veterinary medicine shall be aimed at implementation of measures to prevent and eliminate quarantine and particularly dangerous (according to the list approved by the federal executive body responsible for the development of state policy and legal regulation in the field of the agro-industrial complex, including veterinary medicine) diseases of animals, fur animals, birds, fish and bees, and the implementation of regional programs of veterinary services for animal husbandry.This Regional Law establishes the following tasks of veterinary: (a) prevention and liquidation of quarantine and hazardous animal diseases; (b) research; and (c) veterinary supervision; and (d) protection of the regional territory against introduction of animal diseases. Regional veterinary service must ensure safety of animal products and raw materials of animal origin, cure of ill animals, assessment of epizootic situation, disinfection arrangements and sanitary supervision over milk and meat processing enterprises.
