This Regional Law enters into force a day after the date of its official publication.
Abstract

This Regional Law establishes plenary powers of the Regional Administration in the sphere of protection of traditional living environment, way of life, traditional and customary rights and economic activities of indigenous peoples. It classifies indigenous peoples as those counting less than 50 thousand persons considering themselves autonomous ethnic communities and living prevalently in the Far North. It regulates land tenure, management of natural resources and traditional economic activities. Regional Administration makes decisions related to formation of territory of traditional way of life and management of natural resources by indigenous peoples and applies to the Government of the Russian Federation for insertion of indigenous ethnic communities in the National Register of indigenous peoples.
