Abstract This Regional Law establishes the following main tasks of veterinary practice: (a) performance of arrangements for prevention and liquidation of infectious animal diseases and servicing of stockbreeding; (b) training and qualification training of veterinary staff; (c) protection of the territory against introduction of animal diseases from other regions; and (d) application of state veterinary supervision. State veterinary service shall carry out the following functions: (a) prophylaxis of infectious and mass non-infectious animal diseases; (b) ensuring safety of foodstuffs and raw materials of animal origin; (c) protection of the population against diseases common to animals and human beings; and (d) protection of the regional territory against introduction of infectious animal diseases and poor-quality or hazardous foodstuffs non complying with veterinary and sanitary standards.
