Abstract This Regional Law establishes the modalities of determination of status of protected areas of local significance that are not classified as healthcare areas and spas. Determination of the status shall be performed in accordance with legal act issued by local government within which boundaries is intended organization of a protected area of local significance. The following criteria shall be taken into account for organization of protected area: (a) environmental importance; (b) scientific importance; (c) cultural importance; (d) educational importance; (e) aesthetic importance; and (f) healthcare and recreational importance. Decision of local government shall contain: (a) classification of category of protected area; (b) description of location and boundaries; (c) legal status and protection regime; and (d) environmental protection, ecologo-educational, scientific, economic, historical and cultural value of the territory.
