Keyword Protected area Ecosystem preservation Cultural heritage Education Geographical area Arctic, Asia and the Pacific, Black Sea, Caspian Sea, CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), Eastern Europe, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, North Pacific, North-West Pacific Abstract Nature monument of regional significance “The first well of the Kursk magnetic anomaly” is constituted with a view of conservation of natural complex, including landscape, tree, shrub and grass vegetation. This Regulation determines the legal status of a natural monument "The first borehole of the Kursk magnetic anomaly", stablishes the regime of special protection of the nature monument, authorized uses of the nature monument, and contains information about the area, a description of the location and boundaries of the nature monument. The uniqueness of the natural monument lies in the maximum magnetic and gravitational anomalies identified by the first geophysical measurements in 1919 and served as a justification for the laying in 1921 in this very place of the first borehole. A feature of this anomaly is that its characteristic manifestation is considered a sharp drop in magnetic and gravitational components during route movement in the sublatitudinal (east-west) direction and relatively stable anomalous indicators when moving in the submeridial direction (north-south). The nature monument has a historical, scientific, educational and cultural value.
