Professional fishing in the waters of Umbria is permitted only to fishermen holding the fishing licence "A" referred to in article 22 of Regional Act No. 25 of 13 July 1983. In addition, a special fishing licence issued by the Province of Perugia is compulsory as well to fish in Lake Trasimeno (art. 14). The Umbria Region shall grant subsidies for the development of sport fishing and aquaculture. Such subsidies shall be destined to, among others: a) purchase of fishing vessels; b) construction and restructuring of installations intended for the conservation, processing, transformation and marketing of fish products and related sub-products; c) purchase of meshes and fishing gear; d) market researches and promotion campaigns. Article 5 specifies the beneficiaries of the above-mentioned subsidies. Articles 9-13 regulate the assignments entrusted to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Consortium of Lake Trasimeno, which has been established under Act No. 2043 of 23 December 1917. The Consortium is in charge of the protection and improvement of the fish population of Lake Trasimeno and represents an technical and operating instrument.
