The application scope includes not only domestic animals, but also specimens belonging to those species which are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora of 1973. Articles 8 and 9 lay down specific measures to safeguard wildlife species and birds. Article 14 establishes penalties.
