Abstract

The present Act identifies and aims at the protection of biotopes of ecological, cultural and scientific interest which fall within the regional territory, by way of implementation of Decision 85/338/EEC and Directive 92/43/EEC. Article 2 contains the definition of “biotope”. The overall objectives are (i) biodiversity preservation, (ii) preservation and restoration of habitats of wildlife species of particular interest, (iii) a rational planning of protection and management interventions, (iv) promotion and encouragement of educational initiatives in this sector. Biotopes are to be included in the system of protected areas of the Piemonte Region (art. 3). Article 9 provides for the setting up of a database on biotopes.
