This Regional Act provides for the setting up of the Regional Agency for the Protection of the Environment (ARPA). The ARPA shall carry out surveillance and control functions, particularly by looking at (i) pollution sources (comprising noise pollution, air pollution, soil and subsoil pollution), (ii) chemical, physical and biological risks, as well as (iii) protection of the environment against radiation. The ARPA shall also provide other local entities and authorities with technical and scientific support.
