Abstract The purposes of this Regional Act are the conservation of areas of particular naturalistic interest and the protection of certain flora and fauna species. Title III deals with the protection of lakes and rivers falling within the Lombardia Region. The introduction and placing of any kind of waste is prohibited in lakes and rivers (art. 7). The Communes are in charge of the cleaning of banks. Article 8 regulates some emergency interventions to be undertaken by the Regional Council. Article 9 concerns further public interventions, related to the removal of materials existing on banks, waste disposal, abstraction of algae from certain river zones. Such interventions aim at preventing the pollution of rivers, lakes and related banks. Title IV concerns the protection of certain fauna species, such as ants (art. 12), amphibians and molluscs (art. 13), crayfishes (art. 14). Title V regards the protection of spontaneous flora, which is defined by article 18. Gathering of protected flora and underwood fruits is allowed, in compliance with the maximum quantities established by article 19. The Regional Council shall draw up a list of protected flora species, including mushrooms and underwood fruits. On the other hand, article 20 makes particular provision in matter of gathering for research and scientific purposes. Title VI regulates inspection and lays down penalties.
